Lady Peet loves hanging out on/in/under the Eagle.

I fixed my “random” voltage leak. I was loosing a constant 3.86 amps. Turned out to be the alternator. Thing was in the car when I bought it years ago and I kept using it even after t he engine rebuild and fuel injection kit was installed. So it was time. Hooked it up and went  back down to 0.013 amperes. Started fine, h ums along at 14.5+V when running. Ready to city drive it again.

In case you didn’t see this, an AMC historian shows off his favorite commercials.

Amazing to me in this day and age you couldn’t even manage to kill my interest with cat pictures.  The Eagle looks good.

Alright, Tracy can stay but the other messes need to go before I visit over there again.

Beautiful AMC and cat on it!

Sometimes it’s just plain awesome fixing something like a bad alternator that had been giving you phantom trouble.

A few years ago when I (hilariously!) thought I was close to getting the car drivable, I ran power and attempted to insulate the garage before winter hit so I could get the car running. It was another 1.5 years before it happened. With being out of work, and now that the car can be moved and not immediately wipe out the battery we’re going to order lumber and get the ceiling framed properly and then sheet everything with 3/8" OSB and get all the random shit off the walls. I’ll take a bunch of before and after photos with the cars, trailer, bikes and mess.

Thanks. I turn more heads with the Rampage, but I get way more smiles with the AMC.

She has tummy fluff so soft it rivals baby bunnies. It’s the best.

She’s just high on life in these photos. She loves colour matched stuff. Catnip doesn’t work on her for some reason. But mint... hoo boy! Off to the races!

I just wish I had figured it out sooner. The AMC is so much nicer to drive in the winter than my Rampage. It produces so much more heat for the occupants, has studded winter tires, 4WD, and a tape deck.

The electrical has been so heavily modified to install the MPFI kit that basically nothing is out of the running when a problem arises. I only figured out it was actually the alternator after I eliminated basically the entire rest of the harness and ONLY had the alternator in-line with the battery.

Oh, and she LOVES tummy rubs. She absolutely will maul anything living other than me, my wife, and her cousin. But for us, the softest of tummy floofs awaits.

That’s definitely tough on old cars like this - everything electrical has usually been hacked to pieces, frequently with the same color wire.  I’ve had a project where almost everything under the hood was red wire - an absolute nightmare to work on, but also wasn’t a nice enough car to put in the energy to fix it.

My issues generally stem from having to remove all the old fuel/emissions sensors and their computer. The harness was very integrated power-wise. S o currently I don’t have a working temp gauge or oil gauge and not sure if I’ve permanently borked the cruise control or not yet. The new fuel injection stuff was an entirely self contained harness except for a wire for power and another for the switched 12V to run to the computer so it’s not leaching power through the new relay  all the time.

Ouch - when I’ve run into that before I usually end up running an additional gauge pod with things like temp and oil.

Cruise control is very hard to add or fix later.  Always super-proprietary and janky.

This stock cruise control uses electronic controls on the turn signal stalk to operate a vacuum air system to manually operate the throttle body on the carb via a cable ... To be determined how well it’ll play with the throttle body on my fuel injection setup (there is a connection point there for the cable ) as I’m not sure how to feed the cruise’s computer dongle the info it requires. Janky yes. Yes it is
